چکیده

The recent development in image processing and analysis, moving from static images analysis to dynamic image analysis, has focused the research on the understanding of motion analysis and representation. The psychological evidence has shown that human perception system is more sensitive to moving objects than static objects. We have the ability to recognize diierent objects and their motion in the real world scene. Therefore, the motion characteristic of objects and how to represent them have been studied by many researchers over many areas, e.g., digital image processing, digital video processing, and computer vision. In digital video processing, the data to be used for motion analysis and representation are mainly sequence of images or frames. This image sequence processing involves a large amount of data. Therefore, the important problems are how to process it in a reasonable amount of time, how to represent it in the compact form, and how to store it by using economical space. Even though the rapid progress both in computer technology and motion analysis and codec algorithms has contributed to these tasks being completed in a reasonable amount of time, to create more eecient and eeective algorithms is still an the important research topic. Before discussing in more detail, the two main deenitions of motion estimation , the 2-D motion eld and the optical ow, should be mentioned rst. The 2-D motion eld, or "projected motion", is the (perspective or the orthographic) projection of the 3D motion in real world scene on the 2-D image plane. The optical ow is the eld in image plane that is associated with the spatio-temporal variations of intensity pattern.

Total Least Squares Estimation of Stereo Optical Flow

In this paper, we propose a new method for disparityassisted stereo optical ow estimation. This method is based on the linearization of the round-about compatibility constraint, which converts a stereo optical ow estimation problem to a single channel optical ow estimation problem. An over-determined system of optical ow equations can then be constructed for estimating the ow elds. Total least ...

Total Least-Squares Disparity-Assisted Stereo Optical Flow Estimation

In this paper, we propose a new method for disparityassisted stereo optical ow estimation. The method is based on the linearization of the round-about compatibility constraint, which converts a stereo optical ow estimation problem to a single channel optical ow estimation problem. We then use the total least-squares method, instead of the traditional least-squares method to solve the resulting ...

An optical flow based motion compensation algorithm for very low bit-rate video coding

In this paper, we propose an e cient compression algorithm for very low bit-rate video applications. The algorithm is based on (1) opticalow motion estimation to achieve more accurate motion prediction elds; (2) DCT-coding of the motion vectors from the opticalow estimation to further reduce the motion overheads; and (3) region adaptive threshold technique to match optical ow motion prediction ...

Optical Flow Detection Using a General Noise Model Naoya OHTA

In the usual optical ow detection, the gradient constraint, which expresses the relationship between the gradient of the image intensity and its motion, is combined with the least-squares criterion. This criterion means assuming that only the time derivative of the image intensity contains noise. In this paper, we assume that all image derivatives contain noise and derive a new optical ow detec...

Multiresolution Segmentation of Optical Flow Fields for Object Tracking

The segmentation of optical ow elds is an important stage in real-time object tracking. The multi-point optical ow approach is a means to achieve this, but the approach is limited by uncertainty. This paper presents a segmentation scheme which incorporates multiresolution classi cation and the multi-point method to overcome the uncertainty. The classi er involves a spatio-featural focusing and ...
